  Welcome

Dear Colleagues,

You are cordially invited to attend the 12th European Meeting of the IOBC/WPRS Working Groups "Insect Pathogens and Insect Parasitic Nematodes" and "Slugs and Snails" and Cost Action 862 "Bacterial Toxins for Insect Control"

"FUTURE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT IN THE USE OF MICROBIAL AGENTS AND NEMATODES FOR BIOLOGICAL INSECT CONTROL"

"SUSTAINABLE APPROCHES TO SLUG AND SNAIL CONTROL IN A WARMING WORLD"

The meeting will take place in:

Pamplona, Spain

22 to 25 June 2009

Local Organizer:
Primitivo Caballero, Universidad Publica de Navarra, Campus Arrosadia s/n, Pamplona 31006, SP

History and Mission of this Meeting

The International Organization for Biological Control (IOBC) was established in 1955 to promote environmentally safe methods for pest and disease control in plant protection. IOBC/WPRS is one of six Regional Sections of the International Organization for Biological Control, being its members individual scientists, governmental, scientific or commercial organizations from 24 countries of Europe, the Mediterranean region and the Middle East. The Insect Pathogens and Insect Parasitic Nematodes is a working group within the IOBC/WPRS promoting communication between biological-control workers interested in this particular topic through biannual meetings.

Given the urgent need for support of Europe-wide research cooperations , the 12th meeting will particularly gather and discuss information on future trends in the field of insect pathogens and insect parasitic nematodes with the objective to produce a paper to be submitted to the Commission of the European Union, DG Research, for implementation in the forthcoming calls in the FP7 or future programs. With this aim, the two plenary sessions will present the views of academia and the private sector. These will be followed by workshops, which will further discuss and the proposals and produce the official working group position paper.

International Participation

Although the meeting is a European initiative, it is by no means restricted to European researchers. We encourage colleagues from other continents to contribute.
